About Rebel Art School
Rebel Art School aims to embrace the rule followers, the rebels, as well as those in between and create a safe and supportive environment that enables each person to express themselves through art making. Hello! I am so happy to join Rebel Art School and be a part of the students’ experience here!I grew up in Sweden and received my sculpture training in Italy at the FlorenceAcademy of Art. It was in Florence as a drawing instructor that I found my love for teaching. From a young age, I have been creating with everything around me: paper, clay, fabric and paint. It’s a joy to see the students experiment with and experience many different mediums. I am passionate about teaching and learning, both in and out of the classroom and I love seeing students thrive and grow. I feel lucky to share my love of art with the students here at Rebel Art School!

Hi there! As a graduate with a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's Studio Arts program, a working graphic designer, and mother to two Girl Scouts, I am thrilled to be empowering kids and adults to make art. I am so motivated by the lack of confidence that settles in too early for people. Too often I hear “Oh, I can’t draw” or “My sister is the creative one”. EVERYONE CAN MAKE ART! Art is a powerful way for us to learn about ourselves and each other—to be a part of a community that fosters that kind of learning is important to me. Growing up, I was fortunate to be taken under my uncle's artistic wing. He introduced me to drawing by sharing his best tools and teaching me how to see. Perhaps the most important lesson I took away from him was the unwavering respect he showed me as a very young artist. Never judging or criticising —I believe that his reverence for the artistic process has made a lasting impact on my life. I hope to bring this kind of support to each student that I have the privilege of interacting with.

Hi there! So honored to be part of Rebel Art School and to meet all our aspiring creators and makers that enter the studio here. I grew up in Santa Cruz California where my love for outdoor adventures, long walks by the ocean and in the forest, with hours painting under the sun came to be. I found myself in a art studio just like Rebel Art School when I was eight years old and have been creating ever since. I received an education at UC Berkeley with a BFA in Art Practice in 2018. I’m in support of learning the traditional forms of art making but also finding the freedom in bending the rules and taking risks! I love being able to teach and learn from others, adding and enriching my own practice as an visual artist. Hope to see you in the studio!

Welcome to Rebel Art School! I'm Alex, the owner and creative driving force behind Rebel. I received my BFA in Studio Arts from San Diego State, and after nearly a decade of teaching art and freelancing I decided it was time to create a space to invite others to share in my passion for art. The idea for Rebel Art School was born, and with the love and support of our community I opened the doors on November 1st, 2016. Creating and fostering art is sacred to me, and being able to instill the idea that there is no right or wrong way to make art is priceless. We all need ways to express ourselves, and whether that be through dancing, writing, climbing mountains, taking photos, painting, etc. we need to find those outlets. I could not be more thankful to be able to provide a safe place for people of all ages to come explore and express, and to foster creative thinking. I look forward to inviting you into the studio!

Rebel Art Summer Camps are full of exploration, creative excitement, and and just plain fun! Each week we offer a variety of different media projects (acrylic painting, watercolor, plaster sculpture, mixed media, collage, printmaking, and more!). Projects change each week making it easy for campers to attend multiple weeks of camp without repeating projects, but further exploring the range and depth of mediums. We ensure a good balance between 2D and 3D projects, so whether your young artists prefers to build things and be hands on, paint, draw, or print things they'll be more than pleased! Our camps are not only fun, but an opportunity for young artists to explore art mediums that they typically do not get in school, education in art terminology and art history (including current artists). We break up the week by hosting camp in different locations. Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays are hosted at the studio at 1444 South Main st., Tuesdays we meet at Civic Park (1375 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek), and Thursdays we meet at Larkey Park (Larkey Ln., Walnut Creek). This unique opportunity is only offered during summer camps and is incredibly special as it allows campers to experience working in plein air (from life outside) as well as in the studio for a complete art experience. Please note that we keep a close watch on the weather and air quality and will relocate to the studio if it will be too hot or poor air.

This 8 class session will begin with hand-building techniques to provide better understanding of the ceramic medium before working on the pottery wheel. Artists will learn about the full ceramic process from creating their own ceramic pieces, the firing process, as well as glazing. Students will learn how to use ceramic tools and equipment from needle tools and ribs to slab rollers, extruders and electric wheels. Artists who have taken this course with us will be able to continue building on their skills and knowledge with different projects that we demonstrate, as well as learning how to develop their own ideas and projects with the teacher's guidance. The class is 2 hours once per week for 8 weeks. The registration fee includes clay, use of tools and supplies. Please note that we are unable to offer make-up classes, nor a pro-rate for future missed classes. Once the session is over you will receive an email notice that the ceramic pieces have completed their glaze firing and are ready for pick up. This typically takes a week or two after the session wraps up.

This fun-filled session will introduce young artists to four exciting art mediums (ceramic, charcoal, acrylic, & mixed media), where they'll explore and experiment with different ways to create! Each project takes two class periods, giving students time to dive deeper into their work and really develop their skills. Along the way, they'll learn essential art terminology, learn and build on different techniques, and even discover a bit of art history to inspire their creativity. As students work with different materials, they'll enhance their hand-eye coordination, build problem-solving skills, and gain confidence in their ability to express themselves through art. With our small 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, each child gets plenty of individual attention to help them grow and succeed. This class structure makes this class perfect for both new students and continuing students as we are able to meet each student where they are at to foster their creativity and encourage growth. Throughout the school year, each new session brings fresh projects that build on what they’ve already learned, offering a continuous journey of artistic exploration. By the end of the session, your child will have not only a collection of unique artwork but a stronger foundation in creativity and a real love for making art!
