Our Pottery Classes at The Atelier School of Art provide a hands-on experience in clay sculpting and ceramics, tailored to different age groups and skill levels. Younger students (ages 6 and up) will focus on basic hand-building techniques such as pinch pots, coiling, and slab construction, helping them develop foundational skills in working with clay. Older students will have the opportunity to explore more advanced techniques, including wheel-throwing, glazing, and surface decoration. With guidance from experienced instructors, students will create unique, functional, and decorative pieces while learning about form, texture, and craftsmanship. Whether learning the basics or refining their technique, students in our pottery program will gain confidence, creativity, and an appreciation for the art of ceramics in a fun and supportive environment!

Since school is out for Labor Day, come in and work on your projects or take advantage of our experienced instructors and learn something new! Studio Time can be used to develop new skills or strengthen current skills. All of our studio resources will be available to students during this time. Parents may drop-in last minute if they would like, buy a class-pack to use anytime during the fall semester, or register in advance. Students may choose to do ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, animation, collage, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, screen printing, or anything else we have the resources to do. This 8 class session focuses on learning about clay as a medium: the transitions from greenware, to bone dry, bisque ware, and ceramic. Students will not only learn different hand-building techniques such as coiling, pinch pots, slab work, carving, and sculptural embellishments, but also how to glaze with both underglazes and medium fire glazes. Artist's who have taken this course with us will be able to continue building on their skills and knowledge as our projects are always changing, and we continue building a foundation of ceramic knowledge. The class is 1 hour once per week for 8 weeks. The registration fee includes clay, use of tools and supplies. Please note that we are unable to offer make-up classes, nor a pro-rate for future missed classes. Due to the time-intensive process of ceramics, not all pieces will be ready to take home on the last day of class. We will send an email notice within a couple of weeks of the class ending to let you know when pieces are ready for pick up.

A Little of Everything Week is exactly that! Campers get to explore a bit of everything—from slime and ceramics to canvas art, clay projects, and so much more. Each day offers new choices and creative adventures, and we can’t wait to see what your child picks and what they create! ​

In this 8-week ceramics class, young artists will dive into the exciting world of clay! Over the course of 1.5 hours each week, students will learn the full ceramic process, from shaping their own creations to understanding how firing and glazing bring their work to life. Throughout the course, artists will explore a mix of hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building, and pinch pots, as well as beginning to learn pottery wheel skills; all while letting their creativity run wild. By the end of the class, students will not only have a collection of unique, personalized pieces but also a deeper knowledge of the craft, building a strong foundation to continue developing their ceramic skills in future classes. The class is designed for all skill levels, so whether it’s your child’s first time working with clay or they’ve already joined in classes with us, there’s always plenty more to learn and create.
