Since school is out, come in and work on your projects or take advantage of our experienced instructors and learn something new! Studio Time can be used to develop new skills or strengthen current skills. All of our studio resources will be available to students during this time. Parents may drop-in last minute if they would like, buy a class-pack to use anytime during the fall semester, or register in advance. Students may choose to do ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, animation, collage, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, screen printing, or anything else we have the resources to do. This Middle School Class is perfect for an after school Art Experience. We will complete 1 project each day- so please be on time to class :) 2:15-3:30 is class time. 2:00-2:15 is open time- snack/ arrive from other schools. Includes all sitting fees, materials and glaze/ studio fees. Yes- You can bring a snack to class & eat before we begin.

Explore the world of making your own clay creations! This class will teach you how to create several hand-built clay pieces. Students will be introduced to Kiln firing, and procedures, as well as stages of clay: Wet, Greenware, Bisqueware, and more. Each student will custom glaze each project, and have all pieces fired in our kiln. Many projects are “built upon” each class, so that students experience a variety of mediums and take home several projects. Projects are new every session, so sign-up for all sessions OR our school program for discounted rate.

Class Description:
This teen art class is designed for teens who are ready to begin exploring their creative potential and how to start developing their own artistic voice. Students will be introduced to, and encouraged to explore, a variety of mediums—including drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, mixed media, and collage—while receiving personalized guidance from an experienced instructor. Whether they're interested in building their technical skills or discovering thier own unique style, this class offers the freedom to experiment and create at your own pace. New teen students will complete three pre-designed projects with their teacher's guidance to help aid them in learning how to set-up/clean-up supplies and materials, get a feel for what mediums are available, and allow teachers to get a feel for the student's level of skill and art knowledge. What They’ll Learn: Medium Exploration: Gain hands-on experience with a wide range of art forms, including pencil and charcoal drawing, acrylic and watercolor painting, clay sculpture, printmaking, and collage techniques. Project Development: Learn how to conceptualize, plan, and execute your own independent projects. With teacher support, they’ll refine your ideas and bring them to life. Creative Techniques: Develop new skills in various artistic techniques, from layering and texture in mixed media to the technical aspects of ceramics and printmaking. Self-Expression: Find their own voice and style as they experiment with different materials and approaches to art-making. Critique & Feedback: Receive constructive feedback from the instructor and peers in a supportive and open environment to enhance their artistic process and growth. Who This Class Is For: Both new and continuing students. Teens ages 12-17 who are eager to create art more independently but want guidance, structure, and inspiration from a teacher. Students interested in experimenting with different art forms and techniques. Young artists who want to develop their skills and explore personal projects.

This 6 class session will begin with hand-building techniques to provide a better understanding of the ceramic medium before working on the pottery wheel. Artists will learn about the full ceramic process from creating their own ceramic pieces, the firing process, as well as glazing. Students will learn how to use ceramic tools and equipment from needle tools and ribs to slab rollers, extruders and electric wheels. Artists who have taken this course with us will be able to continue building on their skills and knowledge with different projects that we demonstrate, as well as learning how to develop their own ideas and projects with the teacher's guidance. The class is 2 hours once per week for 6 weeks. The registration fee includes clay, use of tools and supplies. Please note that we are unable to offer make-up classes, nor a pro-rate for future missed classes. Once the session is over you will receive an email notice that the ceramic pieces have completed their glaze firing and are ready for pick up. This typically takes a week or two after the session wraps up.

Our Pottery Classes at The Atelier School of Art provide a hands-on experience in clay sculpting and ceramics, tailored to different age groups and skill levels. Younger students (ages 6 and up) will focus on basic hand-building techniques such as pinch pots, coiling, and slab construction, helping them develop foundational skills in working with clay. Older students will have the opportunity to explore more advanced techniques, including wheel-throwing, glazing, and surface decoration. With guidance from experienced instructors, students will create unique, functional, and decorative pieces while learning about form, texture, and craftsmanship. Whether learning the basics or refining their technique, students in our pottery program will gain confidence, creativity, and an appreciation for the art of ceramics in a fun and supportive environment!

This 8 class session focuses on learning about clay as a medium: the transitions from greenware, to bone dry, bisque ware, and ceramic. Students will not only learn different hand-building techniques such as coiling, pinch pots, slab work, carving, and sculptural embellishments, but also how to glaze with both underglazes and medium fire glazes. Artist's who have taken this course with us will be able to continue building on their skills and knowledge as our projects are always changing, and we continue building a foundation of ceramic knowledge. The class is 1 hour once per week for 8 weeks. The registration fee includes clay, use of tools and supplies. Please note that we are unable to offer make-up classes, nor a pro-rate for future missed classes. Due to the time-intensive process of ceramics, not all pieces will be ready to take home on the last day of class. We will send an email notice within a couple of weeks of the class ending to let you know when pieces are ready for pick up. The class is 1 hour once per week for 9 weeks. In our subsequent camp session titled "Ceramic Glazing" we will be offering a camp where your children will have a chance to glaze all of their ceramics made during this session.

Curious about ceramics but not sure where to start? Join us for a fun, hands-on two-part Mini Ceramic Experience designed specifically for teens! Over two Friday afternoons, students will get a behind-the-scenes introduction to the ceramics studio and try out two of our favorite ways to work with clay. Week 1: Hand Building + Studio Tour Students will tour our ceramics studio, learn the basics of working with clay, and get an introduction to hand-building techniques. They’ll experiment with shaping and constructing their own ceramic piece while learning about the creative possibilities of clay. Week 2: Introduction to the Pottery Wheel Students will get behind the wheel and learn the fundamentals of throwing clay. We’ll cover how to center clay, open the form, and begin shaping a piece on the wheel. No previous experience necessary! This is a great opportunity for teens who are new to ceramics or curious about trying something different. Come explore the studio, get your hands dirty, and discover which side of ceramics you love most! Ages: Teens (12-17) When: Fridays, 3:30–5:30 PM Length: 2 consecutive Fridays Experience: No prior ceramics experience necessary Students will have the opportunity to create a ceramic piece during each session, with the goal of having one finished piece from each experience. Because ceramics involves drying, firing, and glazing—and clay can occasionally crack, warp, or break during the process—we cannot guarantee that every piece will make it through the entire firing process.

Over the course of 1.5 hours each week, students will learn the full ceramic process, from shaping their own creations to understanding how firing and glazing bring their work to life. Throughout the course, artists will explore a mix of hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building, and pinch pots, as well as beginning to learn pottery wheel skills; all while letting their creativity run wild. By the end of the class, students will not only have a collection of unique, personalized pieces but also a deeper knowledge of the craft, building a strong foundation to continue developing their ceramic skills in future classes. The class is designed for all skill levels, so whether it’s your child’s first time working with clay or they’ve already joined in classes with us, there’s always plenty more to learn and create. Join us or drop off the kiddos on Saturdays from 9:30-11am. Saturdays are for slime or ceramics! Kids can pick out what they want to do and we will entertain them with crafting.
