A mother’s helper tackles a lot of the same babysitter duties that a normal babysitter does. For example, a mother’s helper can help with homework. The main difference between a sitter and a mother’s helper is that usually, mother’s helpers are on the younger side and are considered to be a “babysitter in training”. Typically, they aren’t old enough to be left all alone with children, but can lend busy parents a helping hand while they’re home to provide some level of supervision.

Mother’s helper rates start at $20.82, but the cost of hiring a mother’s helper can vary a lot based on their years of experience, the area you live in, and the tasks you want them to assist with.

While it’s best to do your own interview, check references, and conduct an independent background check to help find a mother’s helper you can trust, mother’s helpers on Care.com complete an annual background check called a CareCheck.
