In our STEM LEGO® class we use LEGO® bricks to teach concepts of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through a play-based model of learning. Kids construct a unique model each week using project instructions and LEGO kits. All models are interactive and classes are thematically linked to deepen and support a child’s understanding and vocabulary for STEM concepts. Each session covers new topics/subjects. Topics and discussions are geared for our younger TK, Kinders, and 1st graders. Free-play time rounds outs the class giving our students an opportunity to develop their creativity.

In “What’s in our air?” students will build and use devices to understand the composition of the air we breathe. In this year-long experience, participants will develop practical engineering, computer programming, and teamwork skills while gaining improved understanding of our environment and how it is changing. We aim to build a low-cost air quality monitor, communicate with it via custom Python computer code, and use it to monitor the air near Pittsburgh. We also aim to plan and perform a weather balloon launch, and examine the data the balloon collects. We will compare our measurements of today’s air with historical extreme pollution in the Pittsburgh region, and with fully pristine natural conditions. A stipend will be awarded to participants at the conclusion of the program!

Energy is everywhere, but how does it actually work? Join us for an exploration of all things kinetics! This hands-on camp pulls back the curtain on the various forms of energy that power our lives. Students will investigate the 'hidden motion' of the universe, learning how the movement of tiny electrons, atoms, and molecules creates the physical world we see. Through creative engineering challenges and scientific experiments, your young scientist will master the principles of kinetic energy from the microscopic level to the massive.

Your child builds a working robot, writes real code, and runs hands-on science experiments every week at our Farmers Branch STEM center. Each 3-hour afterschool session rotates through robotics, coding, science, engineering, and math, so kids stay curious instead of bored. Small groups of around 7 kids per instructor mean your child is actually taught, not just supervised. Every student follows their own lesson path at their own level, so a kindergartner and a middle schooler both get work that fits them, and nobody repeats a lesson they have already done. Doors open at 3:00pm and pick-up is by 6:00pm, so it covers the whole afterschool gap. Enrollment is month-to-month with no long contract.
