I am the son of a professional musician/ music educator. I have been around music my entire life and have been participating, in one form or another, as far back as I can remember. I took piano lessons from age 6-10. Subsequently, I joined the school orchestra, taking up the string bass. Since I was the only bassist in the school, I immediately began playing with the more advanced orchestra students. I played in the high school orchestra for two years even though my attention and allegiance was transferring from string bass to bass guitar. As soon as I began playing bass guitar, I started learning my favorite rock and pop songs and acquiring and developing my own tastes and affinities. I jammed with anybody else I could find that played anything ( primarily guitarists and drummers, of course) and also began to accompany the teen choir at our church. I continued playing string bass through 10th grade as well and participated in all school orchestra functions along with many church and community functions. I was given the opportunity to join the local symphony for a couple of performances (once on string bass and once on bass guitar, for a “pops” concert).
