Caregivers who recently joined:
I was the head counselor at a summer camp for 5 years. I was responsible for children ages 3 to 7. I had to make a lesson plan for the children which included arts and crafts, reading, math skills and team building activities with a different career based theme each week. I learned from this experience that in order to be a good teacher you have to also be a good role model because children learn more from watching what you do rather than listening to what you say. I was also a head counselor at a basketball camp for children aged from 10 to 14. We worked on strength and conditioning as well as the attitude it took to be a good teammate. I learned how to cater to children with different abilities and help them to thrive. During my spring break of my junior year of college I went with my school to talk to inner city youth ages 5 to 18 in Chicago about the importance of higher education and stayed in a homeless shelter during my time there.
