For example, if a senior citizen is struggling with their eyesight and mobility, they may need someone to transport them to appointments and to help them cook. If they are struggling with their memory, they may need someone to prompt them to take their medicine and to schedule their medical appointments.

As of June, 2025, the average national rate for hiring a home care provider is $21.74 per hour. This cost may vary depending on where you live, whether you're hiring full-time or part-time home care, the provider's level of experience caring for seniors and the specific duties they need to perform.

Every home care situation is unique, so the skills each provider has can vary from as basic as companionship and emotional support, all the way up to skill nursing care.
