I just earned my CDA (Child Development Associate's), a national credit, so that I can teach young children nationwide. I strive to be the best educator that I can possibly be, taking courses and learning throughout my time working in order to better myself and the program. My first priority for the program is making sure the children are safe. It is an absolute non-negotiable! I want to bring up the children as a whole person: physical, emotional, social, cognitive, as well caring, compassionate, and respectful little humans. I provide a bilingual curriculum in both English and Chinese, on top of the Montessori method. We love to play, it is so fun! They go to school to play, and in every activity they do, they are learning. It is the beauty of working with children. When we play with blocks, they are learning colors, shapes, counting, sorting, and more. When they are playing with Play-Doh, they are learning creativity and how to use their imagination, while building hands-on skills. The sensory and language aspects of, 'this bucket of play-doh is dry,' and 'this one is smooth,' is infinitely important in their little brains as well. There is so much to gain from playing. I want them to have every opportunity imaginable to learn through play. The benefit of a small program in a home environment for the children is that they learn how to deal with different personalities, conflicts, and more. They are little, but they learn from the examples set not only by adults, but by the other kids as well. Children can teach each other how to share, how to be patient, and how to ask for permission. I had one little girl teaching a little boy how to ask to use a toy, whether it was right then or when a peer was done with it. She asked for permission, the child said yes, then they said, 'thank you,' and 'you're welcome,' and the little boy observing learned. Prior to that, he had been taking toys without asking. It is so rewarding to see the kids growing up and learning how to behave on a daily basis in a safe environment. We also teach the children about gratitude. It isn't only during Thanksgiving that we talk about this. The children are taught to say 'thank you for dropping me off!' to their parents in the morning. Before we sit down to eat lunch, we do a family-style meal where we all sit together during breakfast, lunch and snacks, we say thank you and are aware of the gratitude of having food to eat. There is so much to teach the children and my program ensures that they learn as much as they can to launch themselves into a bright, successful future with all of the tools and development they need. Child care
Panda Bilingual Daycare is a bilingual Mandarin- English early educational childcare center combining the Montessori educational philosophy with Chinese and American language and culture. Our center's mission is to offer the highest quality care and education for children from three months to kindergarten entry. The Panda Bilingual Daycare curriculum is inspired by many of the tenets of Maria Montessori's educational theory and practice, along with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and our own unique features. The core of the Montessori curriculum is divided into four main areas: sensory, practical life, language, and mathematics. Many of the materials and methods we use are derived from her work. The children will also explore cultural, scientific and historical subjects such as geography, geology, zoology and botany at levels appropriate to their development. At Panda Bilingual Daycare, we encourage children to learn Chinese not only through art and music and literature, but also through listening and reading the Chinese children's classics such as The Analects, Tang and Song Poetry, which have been a part of children's education for thousands of years. These works of literature and philosophy and history remain relevant in our current society. The authoritative research tells us that exposure to literature from the earliest ages has significant and measurable results on brain development. Children thrive on being read to and interacting with books from the time they are born. The outdoor classroom is an important part of our curriculum. Our outdoor classroom is surely a playground, in which the children can run and jump and play together. But it is also a natural extension of their classrooms, in which the children will have the daily experience of learning surrounded by a bit of nature. They can spend time noticing the animal and plant life, finding a bird's nest, watching the life cycle of a butterfly, growing and caring for plants, as well as playing in the sand, balancing on tree stumps, lounging in the child sized hammocks. Children can paint and draw what they see on the outdoor easels and experiment with sound and music on the thunder drum and musical fence.

The vision for this daycare was born out of the difficult experience of my own childhood. Being asked to sit still in a classroom for several hours a day was the opposite of my instinct to play in nature. I could hardly wait for recess to go explore rocks and trees and find peace and a feeling of being at home in the natural rhythms of the New England seasons. I didn't want my daughter to have the same experience. So I sought to create an environment that was inspired by Montessori principles and Nature School principles. The goal is for children to be self-guided in their discovery of themselves as a part of the natural world. The curriculum and design of the space creates little separation between nature and the learning experience of the children. This allows them to freely engage in the mystery of nature and cultivates the wonder that all children naturally possess. This means there is absolutely no technology or screens and much of the day is spent exploring the outdoors. The area is filled with mature oak trees, large rocks, hills, moss, and different types of plants. There is also an abundance of wildlife, from many species of birds to squirrels and chipmunks and even a family of groundhogs that lives on the premises (my daughter squeals with delight when she sees them). The indoor area is adorned with trees, woodland animals and is inspired by Native American culture which is part of my ancestry. In fact, the Massachusett tribe lived in this area at Pine Banks Park. Part of the curriculum is for children to go there and experience the sacred connection to nature that has been lost in modern society. In summary, Oak Haven Daycare is designed to enable children to learn by freely exploring the wonders and mysteries of the natural world. What is NeighborSchools? Stepping Stones Family Care's Photo

Stepping Stones Family Care

47 Clifton Street Malden, MA

Stepping Stones is a warm and nurturing community where your infant, toddler, or preschool child will thrive socially and academically. It is a fully licensed daycare/preschool that is run by a BPS teacher and mother of two from a gorgeous and spacious Victorian home across the street from a newly renovated playground and park in Malden, Massachusetts. A little bit about me, the director of Stepping Stones Family Care, my name is Nicole Tamarisk, and I am a mother of two, but I am also a Public School English Teacher with over 8 years of teaching experience. Since Stepping Stones is only offering a total of five spots for prospective clients, the teacher to student ratio will allow me to work closely with each child and his/her family from infancy throughout the toddler and preschool years. This type of setting allows me to support these future scholars as they grow and develop. I am offering mixed aged groups (Infancy through preschool) the chance to learn and thrive in a family environment. For the preschoolers, I plan on providing instruction on letters, numbers, and a curriculum based largely on the Montessori method that fosters independence and a love of learning in children. I also plan to provide yoga, music, and Spanish instruction for the students. I am really excited to be able to continue raising my family and getting an opportunity to be closer to them, while still teaching, which is what I love to do! The daily routine offered here at Stepping Stones will create an environment where your children can experience a variety of planned and unplanned (yet intentional) activities. Your child will thrive under a balance of active and quiet times and in individual and multi-aged group settings. Family childcare settings are usually much smaller than childcare centers and for that reason, the amount of personal attention your child will be receiving will be of the highest quality. As a public school teacher with more than eight years of experience, it is of the utmost importance to me to provide an environment for children where they will learn and thrive. In our circle time children will sit together to sing a song, we will go over the calendar and the days of the week. We will explore a seasonal and/or thematic curriculum that helps kids learn the seasons, holidays, and how to be responsible citizens in their community. Our family care could certainly provide the right stepping stones for your children's future. Please make an appointment today.
