The Children's Center at Groton is seeking a Spanish Teacher to work in our Reggio-inspired school. The Spanish teacher would work in each of our 4 classrooms (infants-pre-k/k) for one hour each day. This is not your typical Spanish "teaching" opportunity! We are looking for an outgoing, warm, engaging person who can easily integrate themselves into classrooms. The Spanish teacher would need to have some knowledge and experience in emergent curriculum and working in a play-based environment. We want the children to learn Spanish in an organic way, through topics they are interested in exploring. We are looking for someone who can expose the children to Spanish through songs, dancing, art, and games, rather than flash cards and direct instruction.
This position is for the school year (Sept.-June) with summers off. Hours are part-time, about 25 hours each week, working with the children in the morning-early afternoon. At our school, children remain in the same classroom for the full academic year (Sept.-Aug) and move together to the next age group. You will not experience students coming and going throughout the year.
Our ideal candidate would:
Be fluent in both English and Spanish.
Be teacher qualified by EEC in the state of MA.
Have a Bachelor's Degree.
Have experience in early childhood education.
Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Be able to develop age appropriate, emergent curriculum.
Be a team player with strong communication skills.
Be open-minded and able to adapt to change.
Be willing to substitute in classrooms on rare occasions.
Be willing to attend training and evening staff meetings.
