How to Make an Owl Costume

Sara Eberle
Sept. 28, 2012

As part of the Care.com Halloween costume series, here's how to turn your child into an owl.

This owl Halloween costume will be a hoot for your little one. And it's easy to make!

  • Brown and gray felt
  • Long sleeve brown or black T-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
  • Brown and gray feathers
  • Brown knit cap
  • Googly eyes
  • Brown or black leggings or pants

Step 1: Make the owl's body by cutting out about 40 3-inch x 2-inch felt ovals, all the same size. Starting at the bottom of the front of the shirt, glue and layer felt pieces to make feathers. Layer all the way up to the neck. Let dry.

Step 2: Glue feathers all over the cap, covering it. Glue eyes on top of the feathers.

Step 3: Put on outfit: shirt, pants and cap.
