One of my experiences caring for those who have special needs was about a year ago working with a 9 year old boy, and he had 2 sisters. Whenever we would play games or have discussions on different ideas/topics, he would get very upset because either he ended up losing in the game or didn't agree with what was being said in our discussions and so he would then try to hurt himself. The only way to help him stop hurting himself and getting upset was I had to calm him down with a soft spoken voice telling him to use words to express how he feels rather then becoming angry because it will not resolve anything. At first, it took awhile but then he started coming along pretty well through the patience, love and attention I was providing to him.
