I was a volunteer at a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center for people with special needs for 2 years. During that time, I served both outside as a 'side-walker and inside as 'Classroom Teacher'. As a side-walker, my responsibility was to assist the riders in staying on the horse, following directions during class and supervising the overall well-being of the rider. As a classroom teacher, my responsibility was to plan activities suited to my class's abilities and learning needs, provide care to the students in my class and handle any 'situations' that arose.
