Growing up with a younger sister with special needs has had a huge impact on my life and she has been the driving force in my work with children with special needs. I am currently attending Queens College to become an Elementary Education Teacher with the intention of becoming certified in Special Ed and ABA. For the past 6 years I have worked at a camp for children with special needs, for 6 weeks during the summer and every other Saturday during their winter program. This camp has given me an immense amount of experience with special needs children and has fueled my love for these children even more. Along with my work at the camp and my little sister, I have also taken care of a little girl with autism and severe behavioral problems for the past 4 years. During my time with this little girl I learned a lot from her wonderful ABA teachers and gained a lot of experience in problem behavior. Unfortunately she passed away this past September and although it has been very difficult, I'm looking for another family/child that needs extra care after school during the week and occasional weekends.
