I started working with the disabled when I was in 8th grade, at a high school. During study hall, I volunteered my time to socialize with my friends in special education. Our activities would consist of playing with puzzles, making crafts, baking cookies and selling them to our classmates! Each day would bring new challenges and obstacles. But the reward of helping others and bringing smiles, brought happiness to my heart! Later, in March of 2008, I worked with a company and would visit with clients from a nationally recognized school, serving people with special needs. I provided daily physical training and companionship for 7 individuals with special needs. We would go to local parks, go to the local gym, do dance routines, go to the mall, go swimming, and sometimes, go out to eat! Together we grew as people, individuals, and most importantly, as friends. Until this day, I visit and talk to their new trainers every now and then, to get an update on everyone. Working with these individuals made every day a great day! I know I made a difference in their lives and they have made one in mine. I am a compassionate, nurturing individual who likes to teach, learn, have fun, and help provide the best quality of life one can have! I have also worked with the elderly for seven years, as a Home Health Aide. I would provide the service of helping them with their activities of everyday living. In their homes, I would help them bathe, toilet, get vitals, remind them of medications, cook, clean, and go on adventures! Making life fun and active is the key to a happy heart and creating the drive in people. Lastly, I worked with an association, providing diabetes focused services to the Philadelphia Region. I would take part in educational camp for kids, teaching them vital information about diabetes and how to fight it. Being a type 1 diabetic myself, helping others fight such a deadly disease (if not managed correctly), is important to me. I also managed a diabetes resource center at a health and wellness gym. There people could gather information on diets, exercise, and how to manage their life with diabetes. With these skills combined I am sure I can be of great service to you and your loved ones! I currently help a 29-year-old female, who has Down's Syndrome, with life skills. She improves each day, with communications, emotions, and becoming her own individual!
