I began my babysitting career at the age of 12, after having completed the safe sitter course in which I learned the basics of good babysitting and also some necessities like how to perform the Heimlich maneuver. I babysat for two families from the time I was 12 until the time I was 16, working about five hours a week for each family. The children were ages 2, 3, 4, and 8. At age 16, I began nannying for another family, working from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the school year. During the summer, I nannied full time for them, five days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30pm, and would sometimes nanny on the weekends overnight as well if the parents had business trips or other plans. The children were ages 4 and 8. During my senior year of high school I babysat regularly for at least five hours a week.
