My name is Shelby! I would like to share a little about myself. I'm from a small town and I am 19 years old. I have recently moved to this area. I have two areas of experience with special needs. The first was with my grandfather (he has since passed away). My grandpa had ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was wheelchair bound and also on a ventilator. I spent many weekends and nights helping my grandmother take care of him. I assisted with transferring him from the bed to his chair, feeding him, giving medications, and much more. One of the main jobs I helped with was using a suction machine to clear his lungs. Very unpleasant to do but necessary for him to feel better. My grandpa had ALS for about 4 years. The other area of experience was for around a year with an infant with Down syndrome. She was very sweet but required extra assistance with feeding. She also needed extra assistance with physical therapy and learning how to crawl and sit up.
