I spent the past summer working at a special needs camp for children and adults with disabilities ranging from intellectual and developmental delays to physical disabilities. I have basic knowledge of ASL and extensive training providing care to those with special needs. I love spending time with people who have disabilities because I have found that they have an untainted, honest excitement for life like that of a child. Not only is that inspiring, but also a breath of fresh air. Some of the coolest people I've had the privilege of knowing had very severe cognitive disabilities and have been nonverbal. My friends that I helped this summer have greatly impacted my outlook on life and rejuvenated my philosophies and love for being alive.
