Since I grew up with an older brother with Down syndrome, I have had lifelong experience with people with disabilities. Not only my own brother but also others. From this, I went on to study Disability Services in college and had a job that involved working one-on-one with a teenage girl with Autism. Due to my passion, I am currently in the process of completing the qualifications needed to become a Child Life Specialist working closely with children who have a variety of different diagnoses. I have had the opportunity to be a practicum student and volunteer with Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and an intern for a Cancer center, providing support to youth and families. I am now going to be interning at a hospital in NYC to complete the process of becoming a Child Life Specialist. People with different diagnoses hold such a special place in my heart, and I will forever find ways to provide that love and support to those I encounter. Treating them as anyone would want to be treated.
