I have volunteered with children who have cerebral palsy and other disabilites of all ages since I was in 5th grade. I guess you could say caregiving was always a passion. Then a year and a half ago my 23-year-old brother was in a severe car accident. He suffered from a traumatic brain injury and is now mentally and physically disabled. I have spent the past year in the hospital with him as his caregiver and have learned a lot of the ins and outs. I have learned how to be patient and passionate about helping my brother improve and reach milestones. In the hospitals I have learned firsthand what it means to care for somebody and have been trained by the best therapists, nurses, and even doctors on different strategies and techniques for caregiving. I have learned how to be creative in ways to stimulate the person receiving care, I have learned how to physically take care of somebody, and I have learned how to emotionally meet their needs as well. I have been trained but not certified in physical, speech, and occupational therapy. I work 20 hours a week for my brother with a company but I am looking for more work on top of it. My schedule is very flexible. I would prefer to work with children, teens, or young adults. I have a way of interacting with those ages and working with those ages brings out my strengths and gives me my passion.

Meghan is my 26 year old daughter whom is one of the most amazing and beautiful persons I've ever known. Fifteen months ago her brother and my son was in a tragic car accident and suffered a very severe traumatic brain injury. He was in a coma for many months and is now in a wheelchair and one hundred percent dependent on us for all his needs. Meghan has never left his side and has learned and performed every sort if care giving possible for her brother. We probably are both qualified to be RN's by now through pure experience. My son is still rehabilitating and will for the rest of his life. Meghan cares for her brother several hours a day along with continuing her education online! She is a warrior sister and daughter and would be a phenomenal asset to any family.
