My first experience in caring for someone with a special needs was with my older brother. He has down-syndrome. His involvement in the special needs community around us got me involved in a summer camp for mentally disabled adults. The camp is overnight and each counselor is in charge of taking care of all of the campers needs except for distributing medication. With over 40 campers, I have had experience with many different physical and mental disabilities. I love working with people with special needs because it gives me a chance to look at things from a unique perspective. I also know from my parents' experience with my brother how important it is for the primary caretakers to get a little time off without having to worry. Thanks for your consideration!
