I have experience with a variety of disabilities. I am an Early Grades and Special Education major at West Chester University. I currently work at a residential facility, called St. Joseph's Center, where there are hundreds of residents with severe disabilities. I have a title of DSP, where I take direct care of residents between the ages of 1-50. I have worked with over 20 different residents there. I change their clothes, give them baths, feed them meals, and even reposition them if they cannot do so on their own. I enjoy working at St. Joseph's Center. I have gotten very attached to the residents there and enjoying helping them since they cannot help themselves. I love my job because I'm not only get to help them on their bad days, but I get to experience their good days too. I also take the residents on outings, such as the park, the mall or the zoo to experience the community they live in. I enjoy teaching the residents about the community and everything the world has to offer. I also enjoy my job because it is rewarding to see when the residents begin to do tasks on their own. I love helping the residents at St. Joseph's Center, and I cannot wait to work in Special Education.
