About Katherine

I have several years of experience working with children and families with diverse needs and cultural backgrounds. While in high school and as an undergraduate student, I served as an in-home babysitter, swim team coach, and swimming instructor in my local community in NC. I also spent a significant amount of time serving as a volunteer English as a Second Language tutor for children and families through my community church. After moving to Pittsburgh, I decided to further my studies and obtain my M. Ed in Early Childhood Education. Much of my coursework focused on child development and developmentally appropriate instructional teaching practices in and out of the classroom setting. While in my graduate program at Carlow, I served as a substitute paraprofessional in the inclusive classroom and worked one-on-one and in small groups with children with developmental disabilities, especially children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I also worked for a local center and facilitated social therapy activities for children diagnosed with an ASD. Last year, I served as a Teaching Fellow in a STEM research project through PPS. I also have my PA certification in Pre-K-4th grade.
