I have worked in childcare for over 20 years and first ventured into the realm of special needs care-giving when I accepted a position in which I cared for a 6-year-old who has a brain injury. He has vision and motor skill impairments and seizures because of his injury. I have been babysitting for him for the past seven years (he is now 13). I also cared for a boy with Asperger's syndrome and three children that all have a genetic condition that predisposes them to having seizures (which can be caused by many things: fatigue and over-exposure to heat being a few of them). I would love to branch out and work with more families with special needs children, and I am willing to learn anything that I would need to for a position.
