I have worked with children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, TBI, Brain Tumor, Cancer, and kids who are blind. I just recently completed a 24 hour Child Life observation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a Children's Medical Center. I am studying to be a Child Life Specialist and enjoy helping every child reach milestones. I love working with children with special needs because they are just as important as any other child, and deserve to be treated with the same love, respect, and kindness as other children. Working with children enables me to understand how children cope with their disabilities and/or illness. Working directly with families helps better understand how the illness impacts the family both short and long term. I love working with children and their families. It's a wonderful feeling when you know you've made a difference.

Jenny cared for our infant 16-20 hours/week while I was on part-time maternity leave from August - December 2013. Our little girl was just 6 weeks old when we began our relationship. I found Jenny to be reliable, enthusiastic, patient, and very aware of safety. She treated our baby like a family member, sending frequent pictures and updates during those earliest weeks. Throughout our time together, she logged feedings, naps, diapers, and any health or mood concerns. She was responsive to feedback and requests as our baby's needs changed, often discussing child development or sharing things she was reading about in class. She brought art supplies and sometimes surprised us with hand print/footprint paintings for various holidays or events. I am returning to work full-time, so we are transitioning to a full-time daycare center. We were grateful to have Jenny with this fall and look forward to continuing a relationship with her as needs arise. Just this weekend, Jenny sat with our little one so my husband and I could go on a date night. After two weeks not seeing her and at just 5.5 months, Leah beamed with excitement with she saw Jenny, reached for her, stared into Jenny's eyes, and gave what I assume to be her first hug and kiss.
