My name is Jamila. I am currently a high school special needs Instructional Assistant. I am employed with the public school system in the Woodbridge area since 2002. This is my 7th year working with students in a self-contained classroom. We have students with down syndrome, deaf students, blind students, the mildly cognitively impaired, and students with Autism Spectrum disorder. I support students in all content areas and take my students out into the community to work on job skills and independent living skills. My career in the field of education began in 1984. I taught Montessori school, Inner City Day Care in NYC, ESL and Headstart. My experience working with special needs students began back then as they were all inclusion classrooms. I truly enjoy what I do. I am very energetic, honest, trustworthy and patient.

Jamila has been working for many years with special needs students from 14 to 21 years of age in the public school system. Her skills are highly respected by her peers. As a result she has been an invaluable asset to the special needs division program. Her experience is working with the emotional and academic goals for each student in a group setting. She has the ability to adapt to unexpected behavioral issues and handle them with such compassion and control. The students feel valued by her caring and kind approach to their needs.
