My name is Jamila. I am currently a high school special needs Instructional Assistant. I am employed with the public school system in the Woodbridge area since 2002. This is my 7th year working with students in a self-contained classroom. We have students with down syndrome, deaf students, blind students, the mildly cognitively impaired, and students with Autism Spectrum disorder. I support students in all content areas and take my students out into the community to work on job skills and independent living skills. My career in the field of education began in 1984. I taught Montessori school, Inner City Day Care in NYC, ESL and Headstart. My experience working with special needs students began back then as they were all inclusion classrooms. I truly enjoy what I do. I am very energetic, honest, trustworthy and patient.

I found my passion for caregiving when I volunteered at a mothers shelter, tutored children, and assisted the special needs children at my high school. Working with these children made me realize how much I love caregiving. Hi, I'm Ashley! I am a student at the University of Mary Washington studying Elementary Education and Sociology with a minor in Social Justice. My childcare experience ranges from 6 weeks to 17 years old. I worked as a personal attendant (special needs attendant) for two years with a male (17), female (12), and female (17). I have experience working with those who have down syndrome and autism. I have occasional babysitting experience as well. I worked with a family as an occasional babysitter for two years taking care of male (6), female (3), female (2), female (6 months). I recently have been working as a Lead Toddler Teacher at a preschool for a year. I also float to the nursery classrooms and twos classroom when I am needed, which is often. At the preschool, I have worked with children who age from 6 weeks to 2-year-olds! I am also an aunt to 8 nieces and nephews that I also love to spend time with and have experience supervising!

I really do not have much experience with people of special needs, but in the future I am looking to working with them all day everyday and I think that this will be the perfect step to getting me there. I am currently in college and I am a sophomore soon to be junior. I am currently majoring in developmental psychology with a minor in biology so that I could go to medical school to maybe be a psychiatrist or a recreational therapist. I am really a happy sometimes loud and goofy person. I love to make whoever I am caring for happy and smile and I make it a necessity for them to be comfortable with me as soon as I start spending time with them. Hello, I'm Ashley! I have served as a assistant Sunday school teacher at my church with third graders and preschoolers. I have three younger nephews and five nieces, all ranging from teen to new born, that I watch after when needed. I also have occasional sitter experience with some families. I have previously been a volunteer cheer coach for special Olympics in the past and I absolutely loved it! Hello! My name is Layna K and I am a 19-year-old college student. I LOVE children! I have volunteered at a church for the past 4 years in the nursery where I take care of 5-8 children ranging from ages 0-2 years. I also have two younger siblings that I had to take care of while my parents worked. I have 3 year experience with infants and special needs children in the Stafford County area. Children just have always held a special place in my heart and always will. Throughout high school I started feeling called to work with special needs kids. And communication in whatever form they can use or how much is so valuable. It's why I'm currently pursuing ASL. I have worked with children with special needs for 6 years. I have family friends with twin girls who have autism and worked at a camp with children with special needs. I recently graduated from Radford University with a degree in Recreation Therapy and took classes where we worked with children with special needs.

I was a caregiver for a child with cerebral palsy for three years. I really enjoyed spending my evenings with this young man and seeing to his needs. He used a wheelchair and a manual lift for showers. He also had a feeding tube. My daughter was special needs. She had cystic fibrosis. I did senior care and housekeeping for two years.
