I am 23, a recent graduate of the University of Iowa with a BA in English, a minor degree in communication studies, and a certificate in writing. I am very friendly with a sunny disposition. I have high energy and am enthusiastic, patient, detail-oriented, hard-working, creative, and compassionate. I started babysitting when I was 14, began nannying when I was 18 for a few years, and most recently I have been working as a direct support professional for persons with developmental disabilities at Systems Unlimited, Inc. - a not-for-profit organization local to Iowa City, IA. I have experience working with individuals ranging from 2 years old to 60 years old. As a direct support professional, I provide personal cares to individuals including showers, toilet, getting dressed, passing medications, applying creams and ointments, etc. I help with day to day tasks such as making the menu for the week, making the grocery list and taking individuals grocery shopping. Also, laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. I love to take individuals on outings in the community, whether it be live music, an arts festival, movies, crafts, eating out, cooking classes, or a friend's birthday party. When at home with individuals, I think it crucial to do activities that help stimulate individuals' minds and improve the quality of life for them as much as possible. I believe in going above and beyond in all aspects of life, but especially when taking care of another human being. That is why I never do just the minimum amount of work required of me; I go the extra mile to ensure a clean, healthy, and happy living environment!
