I have worked with special needs individuals for several years now. I first began as a teacher's assistant in an art class where a number of students had special needs, including Autism and ADHD. These students were some of the most inspirational people I knew. Sure, there were some difficult times, but I always remained calm and positive, pointing out what wonderful work they had done so far and letting them know it is okay to make mistakes sometimes. I am still proud of one young lady who became the most improved student in her class that year. My work with special needs individuals has continued as a fitness instructor, where I have taught students with various disabilities. Whether a physical or mental disability, I find ways to make sure everyone is participating and having a good time. No matter what the students decided to do in class, they always have a smile that brightens my day. I am passionate about people of every background because we are all humans who deserve respect. Some people may need more assistance than others, but that does not make them inferior. Everybody needs help at some point, and I would love to be a positive influence for those people around me.
