About who needs care: Mike was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, nearly two years ago. He has recently transitioned from cancer treatment to hospice care for his comfort. He cannot stand or walk and has limited movement of his arms. His mind is active and aware. He sometimes experiences difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). About the care needs: Required Skills - feeding Mike at his pace (sometimes Mike takes as long as 3 minutes for a bite) - interacting/conversing with Mike at his pace (sometimes takes 45 seconds for a response) - using a suction tool (cannula) to help him clear lung secretions in his throat - pushing Mike in his wheelchair between indoor and front porch environments - keeping Mike company - being pet friendly to one dog and sometimes a cat or two Valuable Skills - light stretching of Mike's arms and legs - transferring Mike in hoyer lift between bed/wheelchair/recliner/shower/commode chair - assisting with toiletry changes and dressing - assisting with teeth brushing and bathing (hoyer lift with shower sling) Bonus Housekeeping Skills - preparing lunch for Mike - loading/unloading dishwasher - cleaning up kitchen area (washing countertops, sweeping floor) - tidying up bathroom area - taking out trash/recycling Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
