About who needs care: Alan is in hospice but would like to spend his last days/weeks at home. He has dialated cardiomyopathy and is in terminal heart failure with effects on his liver and kidneys. He needs a caregiver in the house to help him to the bathroom and shower, bring him food, help him come up and down the stairs. ADL services as well as a kind ear to listen and provide him some companionship and comfort while his wife is at work. He has many hobbies, including sailing, watching shows about cars and trucks, DIY around the house/"handyman" stuff. He likes old movies. He speaks fluent English and Spanish and is interested in Spanish music and culture, especially Peruvian/Puerto Rican. Ideal day structure would involve someone arriving in the morning to help Alan with toileting, food, etc. while his wife gets ready for work. Then to provide companionship, food, help, etc. during the day and be there in case he needs anything overnight. We have an extra bedroom that someone could use. About the care needs: We need a caregiver with a sense of humor, who is kind, flexible, able to physically help him - he is 6 feet tall. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
