About who needs care: My dad had a stroke & is currently in a rehab facility. He'll be going home mid-July. We're not 100% what his condition will be. He's basically paralyzed on the left side. He can talk, he can see, he can use his right side, he can swallow sometimes so he has a peg tube for almost all eating. He gets PT each day, and they're practicing transferring from the bed to the wheelchair. He doesn't get a lot of practice trying many other things yet. My mom lives in the house as well, but she's almost 80 so needs help to help him with dressing, hygiene, etc. Prior to the stroke, he only had pre-diabetes (from a pancreas surgery) and a bit of high blood pressure. Nothing super serious. He was managing most of it through diet and exercise. He enjoyed walking, riding his bike, working on his truck, listening to music, watching movies, building models, tinkering in the garage, looking up crazy stuff on the internet, his history class, having small "wine tasting" parties (which is mostly just people eating snacks & telling stories). We're not sure now how the ideal day would be. We "think" he just needs a couple hours of help in the morning, maybe nothing in the afternoon, and we think we have the evenings covered. About the care needs: My dad would probably like someone who has a sense of humor & understands sarcasm. My mom likes to talk a lot, so would probably like someone who also talks a lot. They might need to know how to do peg tube feeding. Maybe know how to give insulin shots. Maybe know how to help someone transfer to the toilet or shower. Not really sure what else yet. They don't necessarily need to have specific hobbies or interests. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
