Pack Your Bags: Jimmy Buffett-Inspired Margaritaville Retirement Community Is Happening

If you love flip flips, shrimp, and sponge cake year-round we’ve got great news. Finally, you can make all of your Margaritaville dreams come true because a Jimmy Buffett-inspired retirement community is being built in Florida right now.

Latitude Margaritaville will feature sun, sand and whatever fun you can get into in Daytona Beach, Florida. More than 10,000 parrot heads – aka Jimmy Buffett fans – have already signed up to learn more about the new senior living community.

“It’s going to be a very fun place,” Bill Bullock, senior vice president of Minto Communities, told ABC News.

While Jimmy Buffett has brought all the creative inspiration needed, Minto Communities will be in charge of building the massive fun-scape for retirees. The project will cost $1 billion and result in almost 7,000 easy, breezy homes for active older adults who are at least 55. Buffett’s Margaritaville company is known for its restaurants, hotels and vacation resorts so a community for seniors was only a matter of time.

“Latitude Margaritaville has the exact coordinates for those looking to live the Margaritaville lifestyle as they grow older, but not up,” said John Cohlan, chief executive officer of Margaritaville.

He’s not kidding. In addition to homes that will likely always be blending a frozen adult beverage, the community will feature gorgeous pools, spas, live entertainment venues and personal beachfront access to the Atlantic ocean. Even if you’re not a huge fan of Buffett, having this pool in the middle of your community would be awesome.

And for residents who don’t plan on turning into full time beach bums, the community will also have fitness facilities and art and learning programs. Buyers can choose between 2 or 3-bedroom homes that have a den and garages. The community will be golf cart-friendly and offer a continuous shuttle to the beach.

If drinking Tequila in a floral patterned shirt is your dream retirement scenario start saving now. Homes goes on sale later this year and start in the low $200,000s and go to $350,000.

“It was very important to us to make this as obtainable as possible,” Bullock said. “We have over 10,000 registrations in two weeks. It’s just been amazing.”

Parrot heads are expected to move in during the late summer of 2018.
