Normally the idea of wandering around on foot with the kids in tow would sound like a nightmare, but when you’re volunteering to get lost in a corn maze, the whole concept suddenly becomes a lot more fun. Finding your way through a maze involves teamwork, perseverance, and just the right amount of adventure to make this a perfect family activity.

If you and your kids love adventure, you’re in luck! There are tons of corn mazes around Massachusetts just waiting to be discovered by Boston families. The corn grows all summer, and most of the mazes open in mid-September, although exactly when depends on the growing conditions that season. All the mazes we’ve listed here are currently open for 2017, but if you plan to visit next year in September, be sure to call ahead. No matter when you go, whether you’re looking for a quick exploration or an all-day adventure with your favorite babysitter or nanny to help everyone get through, these 10 corn mazes will give your family a perfect fall experience.

Davis Farmland was running a corn maze before it was trendy. Now that farms all over the place have followed suit, the Davis Mega Maze still stands out — partially because of its size. This year, the maze covers 8 acres of corn with more than 3 miles of winding trails. Although that might seem daunting, inside the maze is full of fun games and activities that will keep you and the kids from getting bored. If you get really stuck, there are helpers available to point you in the right direction.

The Davis Mega Maze has a different theme every year. This year, the theme is all Boston: Go Pats! You’ll have the opportunity to kick field goals and take football-themed photos throughout the maze to celebrate the five-time Super Bowl champions. If football isn’t your thing, never fear! After you’re done with the Davis Mega Maze — which takes anywhere between 30 minutes and three hours to complete — head over to Davis Farmland to see some adorable animals.

If you want an authentic farm experience with your corn maze, head to Flint Farm. This year, the theme is “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” — a charming nod to the farm’s true purpose: providing food! Look along the bottom of the picture of the maze above and see if you can spot the tomato, bell pepper, and ear of corn carved into the field.

This maze is great for families with younger children, as it tends to be smaller and less crowded than bigger attractions, like the Davis Mega Maze. After you find your way out of the corn, be sure to head over to the farm stand, where you can support local agriculture and indulge in a well-deserved ice cream.

Hanson’s farm has been producing vegetables for people in and around Boston since 1715. First the land was farmed by the Child family for nearly 200 years, and then the Hansons took over, keeping the farm as a truly family-run business. Father-son duo Tom and Matt Hanson started the corn maze in 2005, and it became a major draw for families.

Before you head into the corn maze, be sure to go see the resident goat at Hanson’s Farm. His name is Lucky, and he just might be willing to share some good fortune with you to start you on your journey. The farm is also home to horses, sheep, and chickens, all of which you can visit. If your older kids are up for a fright, be sure to try the haunted hayride, which happens on Friday and Saturday nights in October.

The Connors Farm maze is a perfect medium-sized adventure. On average, it takes about an hour to get through the maze, but the corn field is packed with fun activities that will keep kids engaged, while also guiding you toward the exit. There are more activities, like pig races and corn cannons on the weekend, but weekdays will give you the corn maze virtually to yourself. If you are bringing a little one, the aisles of this maze are wide enough for a stroller, which makes the whole experience more pleasant for everyone.

This year, the maze is an impressive work of art, featuring the face of local racecar driver Bentley Warren. You can learn all about Warren’s racing history and car racing throughout the 20th century when you visit the maze. In addition to the corn, Connors Farm has plenty to keep kids entertained, from the grain train to pumpkin bowling.

The Marini Farm corn maze is a serious endeavor. The 8-acre maze takes about an hour and a half to complete, and you’re not likely to find any clues along the way. You will, however, find 18 information stations that give the answers to questions on a game sheet that all explorers are given before they enter the maze. Use those answers to track your progress through the maze. If you have half the answers, you’re about halfway through the maze.

If that’s all a bit much, your little ones might prefer the 20-minute mini maze, which is perfect for younger kids. Admission to the corn maze at Marini Farms also includes some unforgettable kids’ activities, like access to a 70-foot jumping pillow (kind of like a massive trampoline) and a 50-foot slide. There’s also a sandpile, bounce houses, and playground, so your kids will have plenty to do!

Crescent Farms is a fairly big corn maze for a great price, making is a perfect stop for families who are a little unsure about how the corn maze experience might go. The maze is cut into 9 acres of corn, with just one entrance and one exit. If you’re really looking for adventure, come after dark and bring your own flashlight for nighttime exploration. Most other mazes charge extra after dark, so be sure to take advantage of this deal.

If your child loves machinery, visit Crescent Farms on Oct. 28, when 250 tractors from around the country will compete in a tractor pull competition. Once you’ve had a look at that, you can head into the maze. If you’ve worked up an appetite, Crescent Farms has tons of great treats — from apple cider doughnuts to ice cream.

If you have little football fans in the family — or if you’re married to someone who loves Tom Brady as much as you do — you must head to Sauchuk’s Corn Maze. The football-themed maze features an outline of the New England icon himself, ready to throw a touchdown pass. Finding your way through the maze takes about an hour on average, and there are no bathrooms or refreshments inside the maze, so you’ll want to plan ahead if you’re traveling with little ones.

Sauchuk’s is also home to a kiddie corn maze that can be completed in 10 minutes, providing little ones adventure without getting tired. Kids will also love the corn box (picture a sandbox, but filled with corn kernels), tug-of-war, and, of course, the pumpkin patch. There is plenty to do at Sauchuk’s, so be sure to plan on spending the whole day here.

At Honey Pot Hill Orchards, the mazes aren’t made from corn, but from hedges! That’s OK though. Best of all for families, Honey Pot Orchards offers three mazes, so you can pick your level or adventure.

The Big Green Monster Hedge Maze takes about an hour to complete, and you’ll walk about 1.5 miles. There are bridges involved, so if you’re bringing a stroller, you’ll want to have some help. The Mini Monster Maze is the exact replica of a royal maze in England and is much easier to complete. It’s also open every day, so if you’re visiting on a weekday, this is the maze for you. The Tunnel Maze is designed for kids ages 4 to 9 to explore on their own.

That’s not all there is to do, however. Throughout the fall, the West End Creamery hosts Fall Festivals each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. At those times, you can enjoy the maze and a host of other activities, including a train through the corn maze and a corn sandbox.
