Nursing Mom: ‘Airport Police Made Me Prove I Was Lactating’

Mom says she was humiliated by German police at Frankfurt airport.

Nursing Mom: ‘Airport Police Made Me Prove I Was Lactating’

A woman, who was traveling to Paris from Frankfurt Airport in Germany, is considering legal action after she says a female airport police officer made her squeeze her breast to prove she was lactating, according to a BBC report.

Gayathiri Bose, who has two children, said the incident happened in a private room at the airport where she was alone with the female officer.

Bose was brought to the room after airport security spotted a breast pump in her carry-on bag. German police say Bose was stopped in the airport because of suspicion that her breast pump might have been an explosive device. Bose explained that she told them what the item was but, because she wasn’t traveling with her 7-month-old baby, officials were suspicious.

This is what Bose told the BBC:

“She asked me to open up my blouse and show her my breast… She wanted me to show her (that I was lactating) by hand-expressing a little,” Bose said.

Bose said she complied and squeezed her breast.

“I was just in shock; I was going through the motions. I was all by myself as well, and wasn’t sure what would happen to me if they decided to make trouble for me.

“It was only when I came out of the room that I began to slowly understand what had just happened. I just started to cry, I was terribly upset.”

Bose said that after the incident, she got the name of the officer and reported the incident.

Police, on the other hand, said that Bose was brought into a private room, but explained that the events she had described were against protocol and denied that they ever happened.

This Isn’t the First Time

This is not the first time in the recent past that airport officials have been accused of overstepping boundaries. Here at home, CNN Political Analyst Angela Rye accused a TSA agent at a Detroit airport of taking a pat down too far.

In Rye’s case, TSA officials determined that the agent did nothing wrong. Rye appeared on Inside Edition to discuss her experience.
