After graduating with an Associate's degree in IT (2011), finding employment in my small town in Pennsylvania was difficult. I was then encouraged by a friend to work for the Human Services company he was employed to. Initially, I thought I would be there for a short time, but ended up staying and even had stints as an acting group home manager and then lead staff. What really helped me was basically drawing from the experiences years ago that I had, often times caring for a cousin with Down's Syndrome. I was in a long-distance relationship at the time and it was becoming difficult. After proposing to my now wife and when she accepted, we decided that moving to Rhode Island with her, would be best. I was fortunate to be working with the same company (RHD), but over a period of time and with budgetary restrictions, I saw my hours becoming fluctuated. Three years later, I still love what I do and I am planning to stay in this field - being a part of a team that provides holistic care to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. One of my short-term goals is to switch to a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.
