As of March 4, 2013, I have been approved by Medicaid to be a Community Long Term Care (CLTC) Individual, and an Attendant Care provider. I attended to the care of a 32-year-old man who is severely brain-damaged and is unable to function at any level. He is the son of dear friends. My mother recently passed away at age 94 1/2. She was diagnosed with early dementia about 11 years ago, refused to live with any of her children, but moved close to me and one of my brothers (two miles away). As her only surviving daughter, I cared for her daily, though my brother and his children also helped, but his wife had cancer and passed away seven years ago. I assisted with her care during her five year fight. Mom then moved to be close to another surviving brother, in Indiana. She moved to an Independent Living Facility, three miles from his home. As an attorney, his influence of being there, and/or or his wife's attendance, almost daily was an asset. The facility built a new nursing home four years ago, and mom was one of the first residents. Living almost 800 miles away, I spent almost three months a year visiting and taking over the aides' functions, including handling Mom's incontinence for the last two years of her life. She received excellent care.. and she knew me and some of my siblings and other relatives when they visited. She was only physically ill during the last three weeks of her life. We have a large and very loving family; my parents raised seven children and cared for 33 foster children for 13 years. I would like to chat with you to discuss this opportunity. And yes, I am from the BRONX, NY.
