I have a son with special needs. He did the drinking and made a bad choice on homecoming night of his senior year 6 years ago. He is now paralyzed on his right side and has some speech difficulty as well as short term memory loss. Caring for him has taught me way more patience and care giving skills than I had ever thought to possess. It has also been a great blessing in my life. In addition to my son, I have cared for an advanced case of ALS patient. I learned to do trachea suction, breathing treatments, oral morphine delivery and nutrition and medication treatments through a feeding tube. I had breast cancer 17 years ago (cancer free now) and truly learned about the necessity of loving and gentle care giving first hand. I am honored to "pay it forward" in my care giving profession.
