I graduated from Newman University on December 14, 2013 with a BA in Interdisciplinary studies: Biology/Sociology. This past February, after being the primary at home care giver for a dear family member who was terminally ill, I decided to pursue my degree in nursing after my graduation. I applied and was accepted to Butler County Community College's nursing program; I begin nursing school January 21. I have also been a member of the US Coast Guard reserves for 12 years. My reserve station is St. Louis, MO. I travel there on the third weekend of every month to complete my duty. My job title with the Coast Guard is Health Services Technician. Basically, I provide basic patient care (vital signs, physical prelim testing, immunizations, blood draws) and do a lot of medical administration type tasks. My CPR certification is current. I was also EMT-B certified for several years, although I have let that certification lapse. I also have some experience with Alzheimer's as my grandma battled this disease for eight years. We just lost her in October. I volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association walk every year (for the past five years), and I have volunteered and raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well. My hobbies include cycling, mountain biking, triathlons, reading, decorating my home, taking care of my golden retriever, Savanna, and spending lots of time with my family. As I mentioned, I will be starting nursing school soon, I am also going to begin volunteering for a Hospice, I am looking for a meaningful part time position that will allow me to work while still be able to volunteer and meet all my school commitments. I have a resume and references available upon request.
