Working with people who have special needs is a joy. I began my time directly with special needs children at the age of 13. The family I spent time with as a nanny a few hours a week had a 4-year-old autistic girl and newborn twin boys. While there, I helped with meal preparation, planning activities, transporting, and supervision. I was also the personal dance assistance for their daughter during dance classes. After six years with the family I had to leave due to conflicts with college classes. During summer camps I would ask to be the assigned counselor/teacher for special needs campers. In May I will graduate from CMU with my degree in Recreational Therapy with a minor in Communication Disorders. My goal is to work with those diagnosed with a special need. It is a blessing to spend time, learn, and grown with these special people. They have so much to offer to everyone. (Years of paid experience noted in this bio are based on those as minor and as an adult.)
