I worked for 8 years as a Direct Support Professional in an Association that assists individuals with disabilities. As a DSP, I assisted individuals to and from doctor's appointments/work or other special programs. Assisted individuals with daily life skills. Assisting them in cleaning, laundry, food preparation and personal hygiene. I also assisted individuals on outings or other recreational activities, such as shopping, going to the movies or out to eat. As a DSP, I also passed medications to individuals. I also worked for an agency for 4 years, which is another agency that assists individuals with disabilities. Working there, I received my experience in working with individuals in wheel chairs. I also learned how to assist in the transferring/transporting of these individuals. Working with individuals with Special needs, gives me a feeling of joy, and helping others in need is what I love to do. I also worked for a Retirement Home for 1 year. I assisted the Seniors with passing their medications and personal care. Hearing the seniors' life stories they share, is simply amazing.
