I have been carrying for and working with children and adults with special needs since I was 15. My mother works in a school for children with special needs and I often accompanied her to work because I loved it. Privately I have cared for occasionally a (now) 24 yr old severely autistic boy on and off for the last 8 years. Three years ago I worked part time with a (then) 15-year-old boy with very severe Autism. His care included changing, bathing, feeding, behavior redirection as he was very violent, steady structure and learning activities as well as care and keeping of his environment. More recently, for the past almost 4 years (until Dec. 2011) I have been caring for my (at the time) fiance who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and had required constant supervision, task assistance and management and behavior redirection. I am looking for a position/client that would welcome my 3-year-old to accompany me. While I understand it puts more responsibility on me, I believe children are healing, calming, and can be beneficial to anyone with special needs regardless of their age.
