My background is rich with experience in caring for seniors in several capacities. I have been a program director in an assisted living community for over 12 years. This position offered me the chance to spend long hours with seniors in a social setting. It also required dealing with many different temperaments. I am quite adroit in dealing with diverse personalities and find that very enjoyable. I have abundant knowledge and many years of training in dealing with various types of dementia. My years as a Home Health Aide for a visiting nurse agency have been extremely valuable to me. In that position I would visit elderly clients in their home. I provided hands on assistance in personal care and various other tasks including meal prep and light cleaning. I also would do errands and other household tasks. This can involve pet care as well. I once had a client who was an avid gardener, so I would assist her with caring for her flower garden. In addition to senior care, I have over 7 years experience working on a psychiatric unit at a veteran's hospital. This exposed me to many behaviors and taught me to deal with the unexpected , which may occur at any moment. I find that helping someone remain in their own home and continue to do what they love, very rewarding. My years as a manager have taught me organizational skills and self-motivating habits. I am honest, trustworthy and hard working. I have a great sense of humor and common sense. (It is true what they say, that "common sense is not that common.")
