My experience with special needs starts with my family. I was first introduced to children who need special attention through my mother. She is a structured autism teacher. I quickly fell in love with coming to her class and helping her children. I was also familiar to autism because my younger cousin was personally affected. I started babysitting him about 4 years ago. This past year my experience has grown immensely. I have been working everyday for a family of two special needs children. My comfort zone is really around children with autism, although I have worked with children who have fragile x. I truly love to know that I can be an influential part of these young lives. You find out so much about your self when you work with such special and amazing children.
