I chose the field of Occupational Therapy so that one day I will be able to work with children with disabilities in either a hospital, or school. Over the last two summers, I have worked as a one-to-one camp councilor for children with special needs for a Recreation Department. The children that I worked with ranged from 3 to 11 years old. At the camp, I have worked with children with Autism, PDD/NOS, Prader Willi Syndrome, and low muscle tone. Currently, I am a volunteer for Special Olympics. Special Olympics has allowed me to broaden my experiences and work with teens and adults with disabilities. During high school, I volunteered in a special education preschool, working with the teachers and the occupational therapists. Currently I work in a daycare for parents attending English learning classes. The age range of children that I work with in these facilities is 6 months- 5 years. I have a passion for working with children and working with people with disabilities. I hope to minor in education in addition to earning my Masters of Occupational Therapy.

Eva has worked for me the past few summers as a special needs support staff at a Recreation Department. Eva's job expectation is to integrate students with disabilities into the mainstream programs offered by the town. Eva in an asset to the recreation department as she is reliable, flexible, patient, and responsible. She works well with challenging behaviors and handles them creatively. Eva comes to work with a positive attitude and is able to approach situations that best support children and their individual needs. Eva successfully communicates with staff members, directors, parents, and the coordinator in regards to how participants are doing within programing. Eva's patient, friendly, and easygoing personality allows her to build a positive rapport with children and families.
