Hi! I am interested in finding a position where I can work with a child or teenager with special needs. For eight months, I worked at a center, which is a school for children and young adults with severe developmental disabilities and emotional disorders. The disorders that the students I worked with suffer from include autism and autism spectrum disorders, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, mental retardation, ADHD, anxiety disorder and oppositional defiant disorder. I had many responsibilities while working at the center but my main responsibilities included helping students with academic and therapeutic programs, helping students develop independent living skills, monitoring students to ensure that they are behaving appropriately, calming down students during behavioral crises, ensuring that students are following their academic and therapeutic programs, reporting students' progress to their case managers and clinicians and recording positive and negative behaviors that students exhibit. In the past, I have volunteered at a mental health crisis hotline and have interned at a different school for children with special needs.
