I got my first experience with special needs individuals in high school when I taught a karate class for people of all ages with special needs. I then worked full time for two summers with individuals from 5-22 years old with varying exceptionalities, including autism spectrum disorder, Angelman's syndrome, and Down's syndrome. I love working with people with exceptionalities because they teach me how to approach situations with different perspectives and to cherish the individuality in each person. I am taking this passion into a career and I am pursuing a degree in Exceptional Student Education. I currently work part-time during the week at as a research assistant in an institute for children with Autism.
