About Jessica

I have been around animals all my life and when I was growing up, we only bought one dog. After that, we took in strays that would wonder helplessly onto our front lawn. I became very attached to each one of the dogs. I truly enjoy knowing that I am making an animal's life better! Back in Emporia, I used to work as a volunteer for the animal shelter. I would volunteer in between my class schedule. I love working with all the pets who needed our services! After moving to Wichita three years ago, my husband and I were given a 6-week-old puppy, we named Cola. He is now 3 and is one of the biggest parts of our small home. We also have an 1-year-old cat and the two of them are best friends! I really wasn't sure if we could raise a puppy, but Cola has one of the best personalities (so does the cat!), and I know hard work, love, and daily care was the biggest part of that. For my college internship, I worked one summer at the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. I had the pleasure of working with baby farm animals and a few of us were responsible for the petting zoo. I was taught how to bottle feed baby pigs, goats, lambs and cows. It's crazy thinking how wonderful it felt to wake up at 6:30 every morning to go bottle feed our babies. I was not raised on a farm, but I loved every minute of it during that summer! Besides working at the animal shelter in Emporia, that was one of the best learning experiences I've had! I look forward to the opportunity of getting to have more wonderful experiences in providing pet care! NOTE: I am not certified in pet training, but, I have taught my dog Cola to; sit, "High 5", lay down, shake, come, and stay. I use sign language for "stay" and he knows that well! However, every pet owner has their own ways of training that they are comfortable with. Therefore, if you have already began this process, I would enjoy learning and teaching your pet(s) the skills needed! It would be best to meet a few days in advance so we can go over everything.
