I have cared for family members with an array of disabilities for many years, most prominently my siblings with epilepsy. But my previous position as a direct care worker for has prepared me for anything! I have training and experience with non-verbal individuals, incontinence, blindness, dementia, intellectual impairment, autism, cerebral palsy, mobility issues, dysphasia, behavioral issues, and much more. Some notable skills I acquired through caring for elderly individuals with intellectual disabilities include medication administration, hygiene assistance, repositioning, safe transportation, medical documentation, use of adaptive equipment, CPR/first aid, positive behavior supports, shopping and budgeting, de-escalation, housekeeping, and more.
