I have 10 years of experience teaching at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I recently moved back to my hometown of Salem Oregon. I love teaching drawing and painting to beginners because so many people don't believe they are capable of learning to draw and that is absolutely not true. Learning to draw is really about learning to see and it is not what most people think it is. A lot of it involves engaging parts of your brain that are intuitive and playful. On the other hand, you use parts of your brain that are logical and mathematical as well. I teach practical techniques that allow my students to "interpret" what they see. It is rooted in classical training but leaves room (as it should) for individual expression. The reason I am not seeking employment at a regular "school" is that I don't want the obligation of assigning my students a letter grade. I just want to help them experience the joy and benefits that come with learning to be an artist. ;-)
